    Default Albert P ANTIS, b c1879, Canada? - Military

This man joined the Royal Artillery in 1897 as Martain (sic) CLARKE, so he is "mis-filed" in WO 363 (WW1 Service Records). (He never made it to WW1 - he died in 1902, in South Africa)

Albert P ANTIS joined the RA on 7 Dec 1897 at Liverpool, claiming age 18y 7m, born Bootle. No ANTIS births in England 1870-1890, so perhaps he was born in Canada?
Claimed next of kin: brother Charles (address unknown) & sister Mary (Washington, New York). Probably untrue.
    Regimental number: 24546 RA

He died of enteric fever on 20 January 1902, at Middelburg, SA.
Next of kin believed to be mother Jane ANTIS (Fenelon Falls, Ontario, Canada) and sister Hattie ANTIS (Balsam Grove, Ontario).

Probably one of those whose descendants will never find him!

    Default

Gunner, 16th Company South Division, Royal Garrison Artillery. Service date (on SA medal roll) 1899-1902.

He was in trouble quite a lot for such a short service!

Familysearch shows the birth of an Alfred Peter Antis to Henry Antis and Jane Martin on 4 Apr 1881 in Mariposa, Victoria, Canada... They also had a daughter called Harriett, 1st son was called Charles. Father's a farmer from Germany. Family is Quaker. Might be coincidence, but the names just about fit.
