There is some evidence that “(versatile)” was HMS Versatile (D32), an Admiralty V Class destroyer.

The Wiki page for HMS Ferret carries a picture which identifies HMS Versatile in port at Londonderry (Derry), although there is no date.

The Wiki page for HMS Versatile has details of the vessel's movements between 1943 and 1945, when it was selected for duties in the allied invasion of Normandy. She was deployed to Juno Beach on 5th June, 1944.

The dates of your Granddad's service seem to tally with the above, so he might well have served on board HMS Versatile during the Normandy landings. Even if he didn't, he might have carried out duties on board HMS Versatile whilst she was in port at Derry.

It looks as though your Granddad spent part of his service with the British Pacific Fleet (BPF). Golden Hind was an RN Manning Depot, Sydney, NSW, held accounts of escorts with the BPF. Tyne covered Trinco, Fremantle, Manus, Leyte and Sydney. Tamar was Hong Kong. Rame Head (Maintenace Ship) Commissioned August 1945, Brisbane, then Hong Kong, also Japan. Ferret was Londonderry, there is evidence that Versatile was covered in 1940, so may have continued to at least 1944 and "Yes" she did take part in the D-Day landings.

I think that might be Rame Head, not Rams Head.
