I wonder if anyone knows who I can contact to try and find out the reason that my Grandfather was Mentioned in Dispatches

You don't say which war. If it was WW1, there isn't much hope. If it was WW2, obtaining his service record from MoD is the first step.

WW2. He was an Able Seaman on HMS Tynwald and HMS Gazelle. The Tynwald was hit by a torpedo. He passed away some 46 years ago now, and talking to my Father, he never talked about his time. I have found the gazette page where it lists him, but no detailes are given. I will contact MoD. Thanks again
