Default Time to call for a fresh set of eyes - 1861

I am trying to confirm the ancestors of my mother's maternal line. But there seem to be too many trees in the forests getting in the way of my search.

    The person's name David OAKES
Here are the details from his marriage certificate in 1867 at St Simeon, Salford, Lancashire
David OAKES, age 27, Occupation - Maker up, of Silk Street, Father was Samuel Oakes, Occupation - Spinner
Mary JORDAN, age 21, of Springfield Street, Father was James Jordan, Occupation - Stone Mason

I have tried as many variations of the surname as I can think of, used the specific options in findmypast's 1861 census search but cannot find David in any census.

There are quite a few results for 1851 and 1841 for his father Samuel. And I have tried finding his birth on the GRO - 1840 plus or minus 3 years without positive result. (Birth year = 1867 - 27 giving 1840)

    Hi David,

It is possible Samuel and Maria married after David's birth and therefore David may not be Samuel's biological son, and he will most likely be registered with his mother's surname. That said, I don't see a birth for David Pilkington.

Marriage: 20th Oct 1844, St Mary's Bury. Samuel Oakes, full age, spinner, Heywood Lancs, father John a fustian cutter.
Maria Pilkington, full age, Heywood Lancs, father Benjamin a servant.

I have to leave the search now, hopefully another member will try to help.

There's this very badly damaged 1851 census, take a look and see if it could be them. I'm unsure.

David is on the 1851 Census living in Silk Street. You can find it on familysearch. I have looked through all the images for Silk Street in 1861 and the family is not there so whether or not there are possibly pages missing I don't know.

Regarding a birth registration, although Civil Registration came in in 1837 it did not become compulsory until at least the 1860's so it is possible that the birth wasn't registered.

The Samuel and hannah who married in Heywood are still in Heywood in the 1850's baptising children according to the lancs OPC site. None of the children is called David so I don't think this is the correct couple. If the 1851 Census on famkily search is correct then David's mother was possibly Hannah.

David is on the 1851 Census living in Silk Street
It appears to be on the water damaged part of the 1851 census and may not be on Ancestry but is on FMP. The house number is 25.

The street index for the 1861 census does not list 25 Silk Street so the family Oakes may well be missing.

There is a possible David Oakes here in 1861.

Different wife's name. Occupation ,maker up of goods. His birthplace Is Heaton Mersey.

The 1861 Census ref mentioned in Post#7 has David's wife as Eliza which fits with the marriage given in the post above.
