    Default John SHEA, Glasgow c1876-1917

This man served as John CLARK, and so is "mis-filed" in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363):

John SHEA attested (as CLARK) for the Royal Scots on 22 August 1914, declaring age 38y 2m, born Govan. Regt No 3377. Killed in action June 1917.

On attestation he had stated that he was a widower, but in fact he was still married (living apart and not paying support). CLARK was his mother's maiden name.

Wife: ELLEN, who married JOHN FARRELL in October 1917.
Children: JOHN, b c1893, serving with the Royal Scots Fusiliers (11728); CHRISTOPHER, b c1895, serving with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (8610); MARY b c1897; PATRICK b c1904.

John 11728 is listed on the medal rolls as O'Shea.
Christopher 4/8610 is listed as Shea.

CWGC lists John 3377 as Clarke, the medals index as Clark

The 1901 has Ellen Shea (25, Ireland, wife) with John (7, Govan), Christopher (5, Govan) and Mary (no age spec, Govan).
Can't find John Shea snr in the 1901..
B.cert Patrick gives John Shea (had put Skea, then changed it) & Ellen Flanagan as parents. Dad's a ship yard lab and was present at birth, so he hadn't left yet. Married 15 May 1892, Dublin. I wonder whether he moved around while working on the ships....
