This man served as JOHN CLARK, and so is "mis-filed" in the WW1 Service Records (WO 363).
GRO has 2 marriage entries (CLARK & COOTE-CLARK), and I cannot find a Birth Record.

(As John) he attested (in Boulogne) in June 1916, declaring age 35y 5m, born Linton Cambridgeshire.
Regt Nos: 29662 Kings Royal Rifles; 27195 Rifle Brigade.

(As Charles Percy C) he married Edith Evelyn KEMP in 1910 (Bournemouth, Hants). No declared children.
Home address Kensington, London. Mother: Emma BINGHAM (Willesden Green). Brother: Arthur CLARK.

Died of wounds 1 September 1918.

CWGC has an entry for S/27195 Rifleman J. Clark, d. 1 Sep 1918 age 39, 1 Btn Rifle Brigade. Husband of Edith Evelyn Clark of 35 Beechhill Rd, Eltham, London. He's buried in Terlingen British Cemetery, Wimille. This is on the outskirts of Boulogne. It says that hospitals, rest stations and other medical establishments were in this area, which fits with a death from wounds. They've since brought in other casualties from less suitable areas throughout France.
His stone gives his name as Clark, but the Grave Registration Report spells it as Clarke, the GR Register as Clark.

BTW the Grave Registration Register for the cemetery has details for 6 Clarks, all 1918, and 8 Clarke soldiers mostly 1918 of which one Canadian, one 1919, and one Clarke merchant marine from the ss Abadesa.

Anc's magic record linking system does not suggest previous census entries, but offers a birth for Percy Coote Clarke in 1st quarter 1881, Linton Cambs and another for Charles Percy Clarke - he's in Staffs so unlikely, and his mother is Susan.

There is a Charles P Clark in the 1891, b. abt 1881 in Linton, mother Emma Clark, HoH grandfather Isaac Clark, wife Rebecca. Emma is shown as a single needlewoman. Isaac has 2 other resident grandsons - Arthur and John Wm. In the 1881, same family, only child is Percy age 2months and shown as HoH's nephew.... 2 dau at home, Emma and Rebecca. Emma has 7 assorted sibs in the 1861.

They're my most likely candidates, and I begin to see why he settled for something simple like John Clark!
