I am starting looking for a friend's family tree. when I asked her dad who is 92 for his birth certificate all he had was a Registrars Certificate he said he had to go to London to get this some years ago to claim is pension as he had lost his Birth cert.(Cert. is the same size as a Small Birth Cert.)
Problem is this cert says is birth was in 1924 but it was registered in 1926 I have seen the cert. but can not post on here as he is still alive.
I have found a Birth on FreeBMD for a birth in 1926 which is his and has the right mothers maiden name and will order it for him.
Could this be a mistake with the dates as it is definitely a 24 and 26.

We can't say without knowing the name.
Check the FreeBMD notes against the entry. If it appears to be a late registration, the notes may say something helpful.

Sounds ludicrous, but could the child when born they thought it was female, but later it turned out to be a boy???

Not ludicrous but an alternative theory, however Enid FEAR of Cardiff is listed on the 1939 Register married name AMESBURY

Thank you for all your thoughts and reply's Enid is Normans sister.
Must be having a blonde moment not connecting the years, so may be that is the mix up 24 is Enid Birth date but 26 is definitely Normans Birth date. awaiting birth and marriage certs to see.
LOL he was hoping the government owed him 2 years back pay on his pension.

Simple administrative error. Ashbourne Register Office issued a Cousin with an ancestors birth certificate for 01 Jan 1889, the child was baptised on the 11 Jan 1888, the registrar had written the wrong year on the copy certificate. Simple.
