    How are you able to check that?

    For now I cannot help you prove anything, but I can give you some records offering ideas to follow which may eventually lead to something concrete.

    Looking at the census records I see Ann and William had children named John and Lucy, for example in 1861:
    RG 9; Piece: 1468; Folio: 28; Page: 15
    William Morrish 49
    Ann Morrish 45
    William L Morrish 17
    John H Morrish 14
    Charles Morrish 11
    Lucy B Morrish 9
    Catherine Morrish 76

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    There's this possible baptism for an Ann Snell with parents LUCY and JOHN.
    06 Mar 1816 at Beaford which is about 5 miles from Merton.
    A John Snell married Lucy Bant on 15 Dec 1800 at St Thomas, Exeter.
    I note that Lucy born circa 1852/3 had the middle name Bennett, have you found the Bennett surname in Lucy's ancestral line?
    Beaford is super close, only 1hr walk - that seems plausible, I'm going to check that out.... thank you
    Perhaps you've misunderstood me as I don't believe the Beaford 'lot' are yours.
    The ones below are much more likely, as the older generation have surnames which were given to Ann and William's children as middle names. I believe Ann Snell's mother was Susanna Heard
    , Heard being the middle name of Ann and William's son John
    This sounds much more plausible, thanks for straightening that out. My cousin is directly related to John Heard Morrish and was really keen to know where Heard came from, thank you again almor!
    You are probably right, SNELL is not the rarest of names, but a coincidence, thank you for spending time on this though, I do appreciate the help
    I have an Edith Mary Snell, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Snell. They lived in Colyton, Devon. Edith married William John Ball, who I am related to.
