Hi
I howled with laughter when I first found and read this article as my sister always thought the paternal side were so proper I couldn't wait to tell her although Dad was told Uncle George was a bit light fingered and we didn't know what he had done of course this article explained a lot. He did go into the post office around 1880 which would I think have been classed as the Civil Service but prior to 1885.
