Hi
Over the years I have been told my father Eric Rudge (B 1914- D 1969) was in the home guard in WW2 in Halesowen, West Midlands or the surrounding area. So far I have had no luck in trying to find out if this was true or not so I am hoping someone will be able to guide me in the right direction to finding out the truth.
Regards
Weeksy

Hi
As with other WW11 service records those of the Home Guard are still held by the MoD.
Here is The National Archives guide which gives links where you can download the application forms.

In 1939 Eric born 1914 was with Sarah Rudge born 1874 living in Halesowen.
Depending on his job and where he worked, could this have been a reserved occupation??Last edited by Pam Downes; 25-04-2017 at 10:59 PM. Reason: Details in breach of FMP's T&C's removed

Here is a PDF of the governments Schedule of Reserved Occupations for WW11
When it opens it looks like a big blank white page. Just scroll down until the print appears. You need page 14 right hand column under fitters etc
