    Default Cunarders

Hi, my name is Cheryl and I am researching my family following the passing of my Dad.

I need some help please. My Great Grandad William Edward Anderson M.B.E had and extensive career with Cunard. Liverpool John Moore's University have sent me some great information about him; a piece of which I am intreged with.

A publication entitled 'Ivernia Personalities' states the following (no date):

"Captain Fasting was in command of the Parthia when her sailing from Liverpool was televised in September 1952, and Mr William E. Anderson, M.B.E., was the Chief Engineer."

Can anyone advise me of how I might find this televised footage?

    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the British-Genealogy forums

I think the only television broadcaster in Britain in 1952 was the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) so contacting them may tell you if the film has survived.

Does the JM University have Cunard's archives? If not, have you contacted Cunard themselves, as I think they're more likely to have a copy of any footage than the BBC.

Was the departure of the Parthia 'special' (e.g. similar to the other year when the three Queens were on the Mersey)? If so, it might also have been filmed for Pathe newsreel to be shown in cinemas.

Thanks Pam, I have previously requested info from JMU and they send me a few printed articles. I have considered contacting Cunard directly, but just assumed JMU would have everything, but I will give it a go
