Default Secondary Job for Military Personnel

I have be researching my great grandfather.

I know that he served in the Royal Artillary in Toronto, Canada in the second half of the 1860s.

After serving in the RA he became a tailor.

His first two children where born in Canada therefore his wife must have been there too.

I have found a person with the same name living in Toronto the address is just a few hundred yards from the New Fort in Toronto and he is listed in a directory of local trades as a Tailor.

I know he was in Toronto and I have the record of his award of campaign medals in 1866 and 1870.
In the 1871 Census he was still in the RA but in Ipswich, UK

The entry in the 1868 Toronto City directory

So is it likely that these are the same person?

    TIA

It's Part Time Occupation. The subject got truncated and I didn't notice. I can't edit either.

Thread titles are limited to forty-four characters, including spaces.

If you ask nicely a mod can amend the title. Just work out what you'd like it altering to and ask in your next post.

Thank you to the unknown mod who sprinkled the necessary fairy dust and amended the title while I was watching TV.

Hi, I don't know what information the trade directories give, is it the same address as where his wife and children live?

Or is it his father/Uncle with the same name and when he left the RA he followed in the family trade.

I was going to say was he a reservist but he sounds as if he was a full time soldier.

The only information in the directory is his Name Address and Trade.

All of the other information I have are UK census records and some military records for his time in the Royal Artillery.

Just wondering when the two children were born in Canada and if there is anyway of finding out the address they were at when they were born. You just need one clue and the only shot at that I would have thought is that address given on the trade directory.
