I have been conducting research in my family history for over three years but have become stuck. I have a grandfather that appeared, but no past that I can trace. I was forbidden to search for this side of the family while my father was alive. Almost everything I was told about this side of the family was a total lie. After my father's death I found documents in my dad's possession that showed different information than what I was told by him. Some family members have told me that the family history was kept from me to protect me.
So now I am stuck. Looking for the elusive grandfather in both the UK and India

Hello Martin and welcome to the Brit-Gen forums
Our members love solving mysteries and I see you have already posted about your grandfather so it won't be too long before the sleuths get on to it.

You're not alone, Martin. Many of us came late to family history, long after older family members were gone. There should be some sort of a paper trail for the first few generations, at least!
As Cris says, we have a lot of enthusiastic sleuths!
