I am not sure if this is the right place for this post or if it should be under Merchant Navy. However, I am researching a relative who served in WW1 on a number of ships and on his 'Certificate of Discharge' along side the Ships name is "T124X". From some basic research I understand that T124X is an agreement that Merchant Seaman signed then would be under Navy Rules.
Questions:
1 Did/does this mean they are still merchant seamen and if so why didn't they join the Royal Navy?
2 Were all the ships RN vessels or could they be merchant shipping? and
3 Did the men serving under T124X agreements receive medals and if they did how do we find there medal records?
any help on this would be of great assistance.
thanks Roy
