Hi, I have someone whose death is as follows -
Burial Date: 14 Jun 1713
Parish: St Bride Fleet Street
County: London
Borough: City of London
Source Citation: Guildhall, St Bride Fleet Street, Register of burials, 1709 - 1726, P69/BRI/A/01/Ms 6550
Record states:
14 June 1713, James Taswell, on? ? floor? (this may be "of Fleet"?), apoplexy, Lg
Was St Bride connected to Fleet Prison. I am wondering if it means he died in Fleet Prison.
Thanks

I actually think it says June 14, James TASWELL, one, fleet, apoplexy, Lg. If you look at the record above, there is the word "three" after the name. What it refers to I have no idea, but presumably it meant something to whoever wrote the burial register.

I would guess the 'three', would possibly be 3 pennies(3d(About one and half pence(P(ence), in 'new money'),....the cost of Burial. It's a possibilty.
Too many bones, too much sorrow, but until I am dead, there's always tomorrow.

The format seems to be Name - Address/Location - Cause of Death.
So the line above TASWELL reads: Lewis DAVIS - Three Leg Aley(sic) – Fever
Three Leg Alley was off East Harding Street to the north of Fleet Street.
Two lines above: Thomas DAVIS – by ye Fleet – Conovolsions(sic)
The line below TASWELL looks like a summary ('Reports') of some sort, repeated at weekly intervals.
The best I can suggest is
James TASWELL - in ye Fleet - Apoplexy
It looks like the writer has entered 'in Fleet' and then inserted a shortened version of 'ye'. The word 'in' does look like 'on' but there's a tell-tale dot above. There are similar entries on the facing page.
