I was thinking of a badly written J/V.

Who were the witnesses to the marriage?

    14 Worcester Street, Linthorpe, Yorkshire
Looking at the electoral Roll, and if born in 1890 he would have been eligible for call up for WW1

Many thanks to all contributions so far, all very useful. It will take me some time to digest everything and see if I can knit anything together.

    Hi Pam,

The marriage certificate states that the marriage was solemnised in the Parish of Tarporley in the County of Hereford. At the bottom it says that they were married in the Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church after bans by me.

The vicars name was Ledger and in answer to another post the witnesses are shown as F Morris and C B Bevis?

I have found all the extended family on Ancestry, FreeBMD, Family Search, I did not give you all the information I had found as I did not want to overload you with info. Also I did not want to take away the thrill of the searching from you. I sometimes think that we give to much information away to these who are new to researching and that takes away the thrill you get when you find the right person that fits in your own family.

You see we are addicted to this game, the more people we find for other folks gives us a fix. I am anyway because I have gone as far as I can with my own family search.

So Glad to be of help.

Is Tarporley really, really, clearly written? Because wherever I look I can only ever find Tarporley in Cheshire.

The nearest I can find in the list of Heredfordshire towns and parishes on Genuki is Tupsley.
    https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/HEF/Parishes

The only thing I can think of is that the vicar had recently moved to [unknown place in Herefordshire] from Tarporley and that was his first marriage in his new parish and he forgot he'd moved.
Wonder if Herefordshire Record Office could throw any more light on it? There's no Tarporley in their list of PR holdings.

They married at Tarporley Parish Church, Hereford on the 26th August 1918
I think I would query this with GRO.

googling Tarporley Hereford brings up travel distances from Hereford to Tarporley Cheshire!
