Hello. Several years ago i was sat in my great uncle garden and i asked him if he knew how my great uncle Norman had died. He clammed up and wouldn't tell me, this was 40 years after the war. With tears in his eyes all he would say was ask your uncle Bill. Great uncle Bill died before i could speak to him unfortunately. I did find out that Lance Corporal Norman Rose 4697635 served in the 6th Battalion of the Green Howards and he died of his wounds at a casualty clearing station and is buried in Jonkerbos commonwealth war graves cemetery. Several years later another member of the family came out with a story that Norman and his brother John were crossing a bridge somewhere near to Nijmegen bridge and something happened, Norman was badly wounded and John was ok. I have a copy of the unit diary for that period but he's not named as wounded. If anyone has any ideas as to what to do next or where to look for more information i would be extremely grateful.

Welcome to the British-Genealogy forums
If you came to us from Forces War records reading this will tell you a little about us.
You can actually purchase your great uncle's service record which are still held by the MoD and this 'sticky' explains and gives links to the application form. You will need his death certificate, 30 pounds and some patience waiting for them to be delivered.
