    Default Info/Help with Jelliman/Jellyman family?

    Hi all,

Just wondered if there anyone had any information on the Jelliman/Jellyman family in Coaley, Gloucestershire?

The furthest I've got back is to Daniel Jelliman, born 1769 in Coaley, married to Grace Osborn in 1789, and fathered 10-13 children with Grace. He later married Janet/Janetta Elliots.

The family I've been researching rather like more unusual, biblical (?) names, ie: Zaccheus, Micah, Simeon, Caesar, Hephzebah, Abraham etc.

They are also very good at avoiding census' and have previously been tricky to find in baptism, marriage and burial records. I think they are primarily based in Gloucestershire but I think quite a few of them eventually moved to Staffordshire.

Any help and information would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks Emelton!

So, do you think that Sarah+Thomas renamed Daniel (b.1768) after his older brother (1760-1767) who passed away?

So Sorry - I missed the second Daniel out of the list. I'd made a note of his baptism then made a list of the siblings, which is what I typed out for you, totally forgetting him!

    Daniel Jolliman bapt 17/1/1768

The parish register images of Coaley, and many other Gloucestershire parishes, are available to view on Ancestry. If you do not have a subscription to Ancestry, you may be able to view them at one of your local libraries.

There is a marriage at Coaley on 14 February 1798 between John WEBB, bachelor, of the parish & Doidamia JELIMAN, spinster, of the parish. Witnesses were John PARLOC & Thomas GABB. Also on 12 May 1788 at Coaley Anthony ELIOTS, of the parish, bachelor & Sarah JELIMAN of this parish, spinster. Witnesses were Samuel BOLD & Thomas GABB - the latter seems to witness most of the marriage entries in the parish register around this time.

Marriage at Cam, Gloucestershire on 7 October 1792 between Charles JELLYMAN of this parish, bachelor, & Ann BARNFIELD of this parish, spinster.

Marriage at Coaley on 29 March 1796 between George JELLIMAN of this parish, widower, & Unice SMITH of this parish, spinster. George's first marriage was at Coaley on 16 March 1789 to Sarah HOWEL of the parish, spinster.

You probably already have these, but in case not:

1851 census of Cannock, Staffordshire (HO107/2016, folio 454, page 24) living at Street Road:

Zaccheus JELLIMAN Head Mar 57 Laborer Gloucestershire Coaley
Mary do Wife Mar 57 do do
Henery ELLIOTS Servant Un 15 Labourer do do
Joseph SMITH Lodger Un 21 Staffordshire Cannock

Next house down is Charles JELLIMAN & family aged 32 born Cannock. It would seem likely that the Henry ELLIOTS is a relative given that Sarah JELIMAN married Anthony ELIOTS.

Daniel JELLEYMAN, aged 43 born Coaley, & family is in the 1851 census of Penkridge, Staffordshire (HO107/2016, folio 529, page 12

Danl JELLEYMAN & 2nd wife Janett are in the 1841 census of Coaley (HO107/347/13, folio 6, page 5). George JELLEYMAN is still alive and in the 1841 census of Coaley (HO107/347/13, folio 7, page 8) living with a Charles & Hester JELLEYMAN.

Marriage at Coaley on 21 August 1807 of a James WEAVING of the parish of Horsley, widower & Diedamia WEBB of this parish, widow.

    Thank you!

There's so few Jellimans in the area that I reckon I'm related to most, if not all, of them somehow!

    Thank you Janet!

I do have George, Zaccheus and Daniel on the census' you listed.

As I said in my original post, they seem to be very good at avoiding census'! Whether that's down to spelling mistakes, I'm not sure! Wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, though!

Could you find any record of Zaccheus + Mary Jelliman in the 1841 census?
