My GGGrandfather Thomas Heffran was born abt 1786 at Mayo, Ireland. Various spellings for Heffran, Heffron, Heffrin, Hefferin, Efferin, Ephraim,Ephein. He moved to Monmouth, Wales where he worked as a miner, married Martha Davis and had many children. He died at Bedwelty, Monmouthshire, Wales in 1864. Any info on the Heffran family in Ireland would be appreciated. jim Hart

Without some idea of where in Mayo he originated it will be very difficult to trace him. You will be reliant on church records, but not all RC parishes in Mayo have any records for the late 1700s. Many don’t start till the 1820s. Ancestry have most of the surviving RC records for that county on their website. You could try it. Otherwise DNA testing might be the only way to establish a link.

Thanks so much for your response. I knew it was a long shot but thought I'd try. I did do the DNA test and will check to see id that helps. Jim
