My dad did his national service in the Royal artillery but I have been unable to locate any recorded he may have. I have is service number and full name.

I think you may have come to us from FWR so reading This will tell you a little about us.
I think your father served in WW11? If so you will not find his service records online as they are still held by the MoD. You can apply for them but you will need his death certificate and 30 pounds.

NS records most definitely still at the MOD as Christanel says above.
