Just to reinforce what SueNSW has said:
As well as the Land Army Hostel mentioned by Peter Nicholl in #2, Lamphey Court was requisitioned by the RAF during WW2 (there was an RAF Base at nearby Carew Cheriton). Many stately homes were requisitioned by the military who required civilian staff to support their operations.

The National Register was taken on 29th September 1939 and was intended to record the civilian population of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Findmypast has the Register for England and Wales on line. You can do a search at no cost but you'll have to register to view the detailed results. As Friend's Mum married in 1939, you could do with knowing the exact marriage date. This will enable you to search with the correct surname. If you can also ascertain her exact date of birth, that should help with the search.
If FM was still unmarried on 29th September 1939, there should be a record of her occupation. If she was married by that date, and had ceased working, her occupation would be listed as 'unpaid domestic duties', in which case, no help. On the other hand, if the address on the Register is in Lamphey, that should tell you something!
