Default William Singleton -Ticket of Leave

Can anyone decipher what the first word written across the Ticket of Leave is, it begins with "L" and the 2nd word is "up"?

Two images - (a) the whole document and (b) a blow up of the part in question.

    Default Peter Hughes

Peter Hughes was convicted of a subsequent crime in 1843 and sent to Van Diemens Land for life. I can't the description of crime he was convicted of and I wondered if anyone else could? I have see another document which talks about horse theft, but what is written below does not look like that. It is the 3rd column along that I am interested in.

The last two words could be "in possession", but I've got no idea what the first word is - it looks like "Tricking", although that doesn't appear to make sense!

In possession would make sense, so thanks for that. Perhaps its an out of use expression?......................

Many of the more serious offences using the phrase "in possession" appear to be associated with forged or "base" coinage (or the equipment for producing such), so this might be a possibility?

Have now found another document and solved the mystery:

1 February 1842 he was charged in Goulburn with horse stealing and on the 11 February with having a firearm. Both charges were laid by G. Stewart Esquire. In the first charge he was able to produce rebuttal witnesses and was not tried on that charge. He was found guilty on the second charge on 26 April and transferred for Life Van Diemens Land. Me thinks Mr Stewart did not like him, or perhaps he was just a bad man. The UK Prison Hulk report describes his behaviour as "very bad", whereas the vast majority were well behaved.

Aha! So the word that looks like "Tricking" actually begins with an "F" and is something to do with firearms? I still can't make out what it says, though...

Quite possibly - he was in trouble in 1840, so that would fit. Its always good to have another pair of eyes looking!

    Thank you!
