The only James Banfield, born Cornwall, right age, that I can find in other census records is this one in 1901
James Banfield, Widower, age 56, born in Cornwall (Scilly Isles)
Class: RG13; Piece: 1574; Folio: 52; Page: 28
Hang on - he's also in the 1891
Class: RG12; Piece: 328; Folio: 39; Page: 23; GSU roll: 6095438

probably not very helpful but in my family tree there are some Cornish miners who emigrated to South America to have a go at silver mining - I believe quite a few did

I saw the James Banfield but discounted him because he was born Scilly Isles.
Are there any lists of miners going to South America?
