Ha Ha! I had farming friends in Kenya (Webb) and his wife was Welch. I was struggling learning "Kings English" at the time and she was a ruining my efforts! Used to just love to sit and listen to her speak.

Memorials to mariners

Another New Year’s Eve is commemorated on a 1905 epitaph. This one was erected by the citizens of Donaghadee to remember Samuel Edwards, Christopher Williams and A J Robin who drowned at Coalpit Bay just to the south of the town when a cargo ship called the Catherine Rennie foundered there. There is a popular local story that the quality of the ship’s cargo of heatherbrown quarry tiles was so good that there was hardly a back-yard in the town that was not enhanced by the laying of any which could be salvaged.
Pretty interesting history when one starts digging! Many thanx for the interest and info.

This is just a note to all who have contributed to this information...
As with all genealogy, questions are answered adn more are raised.
I have noticed an association with the surname WILLIAMS in multiple replies.
Ben WILLIAMS is a witness to Wm and Mary marriage 1879
Christopher WILLIAMS apparently is one of the other sailors who drown with Wm and the Cath Renney 1905
Geo P WILLIAMS (20yoa) is a border with Ann (WILLIAMS) Edwards (about 28yoa), Nell, Mary C and Hugh Griffeths (21yoa) in Bootle 1911
I don't believe in coincidence so I think I'll keep looking! Thank you all for a quick leap forward in genealogy.
