Default Is Walsall Wood part of Rushall?

    Hello,

I'm researching my Sheldon line, and my fourth great-grandfather, John Sheldon, was born in Walsall Wood in c.1787, according to the 1851 Census. In both the 1841 Census and 1851 Census he is living in Rushall, Staffordshire.

But I'm unclear as to whether Walsall Wood was a part of Rushall? And what Church John might have been baptised at?

    Thank you for your time,
    Craig

The two are close but are/were different neighbouring areas. I can see that if he lived close to the border, then either appelation might be used

According to google maps Rushall is 2.7 miles SW of Walsall Wood.

Using Parloc Locator it tells me there is no Parish named Walsall Woods but there is definitely a Parish of Rushall

I am useless at locating churches so someone else will be along to help with that

if you go in to Genuki you can find information on various parishes and lots of other information.

    Default GENUKI

This page on GENUKI will probably provide you with the answer:
https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/Walsall/. It quotes at length from an 1851 gazeteer and gives links to the different churches.
