You need to be looking for a birth certificate for the son William Thomas Copeland, that will give you his mothers maiden name.

There won't be a birth cert, he was born prior to civil reg.

Hi,

Thomas Copeland from Cork, birth date unknown, but he died before 1869, and he had a son William Thomas Copeland 1845-1917, who was also born in Cork, they moved at some point to England and the rest is history as they say. He must have been married but I can't find anything on a marriage either.

Records - FreeBMD - The earliest possible date is the September quarter of 1837.

This is when Records started in England and Wales so unless Irish records didn't start until after 1845 when William Thomas Copeland was born 1845 then no there wont be one.

I have not had to research Irish Records before so do not know when they started.

Just Googled - when did civil registration start in Ireland. Very interesting as Cilil Registration of Births didn't start till 1864

The indexes to Irish civil registration list the marriage between Thomas Copeland and Anne Sadleir as being registered in Kinsale, Co. Cork 1847 Vol 6, page 377. If you order a copy of the certificate it will contain the same information as you would get on an English marriage certificate. The year (pre 1864) tells me that the marriage was not an RC ceremony. It was probably Church of Ireland.

You have to download and print off the form. Then either post or fax it back to them. You can’t e-mail it to them. However if you want them to e-mail the cert to back to you, they will do that, so tick the relevant box.

Put the reference details on the form (anywhere). Don’t worry about leaving some boxes blank. As long as GRO have the location, name(s), year, quarter (where there is one), volume and page number they should find it.

Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church which should be on the certificate, (unless it was a Registry Office marriage). That church may be the place to look for her baptism and that of any siblings. However if the bride was born in Templebredy, Co Cork, then their Church of Ireland parish records only start in 1830 so it'll be borderline as to whether she's in the records.

The parish of Temple Bready covers the townland of Crosshaven and this is approx. 17 miles south of Cork city. In 1850 Griffiths Valuation shows a George Sadlier as a tenant in the townland of Crosshaven with a house and small garden.
