My father serve in the First World War and was awarded the MID. I have the certificate of the award. How can I find out the details of the event/s for which it was awarded?

    Welcome to the Brit-Gen forums

if you came to us fro Forces war records reading This will tell you a little about us.

His award will be mentioned in the London Gazette but not the reason for receiving it.

If you know his regiment/battalion you could see if The National Archives has the war diaries and may be work out where they were at any given time which may give a clue as to why he earned this decoration.

Over 60% of WW1 service records were destroyed by bombing/fire in WW11 so the odds are against finding his s.
If you want some help with searching records can you give us name, birthdate and place, parent's names and his regimental number etc. Then we can take a look for you.
