Smile Hello from Sydney NSW. Burns Wood Archer

Hello and happy new year to all. I've been researching my family tree for over twenty years and still have a long way to go. Interested in: Wood (Chorlton) Burn(s) and Tregonning (Kenwyn) Archer (Dublin). Hoping to learn a lot and help where I can. Cheers, John Wood

Hello John and welcome to the British-Genealogy forums

Genealogy is a never ending hobby/obsession isn't it?

You will find us a friendly lot who all join in to receive and give help.

Thank you Christina. My family asks when the family tree will be finished. What's the answer? Perhaps it's "Not dead yet"

It is an obsession, isn't it?

    Cheers,

    John

Take comfort in that they are at least asking about it's welfare. So many of us just receive blank looks when we try to impart snippets of information. They'll be sorry when I'm gone

Default WOOD Family of Chorlton upon Medlock, Lancs

Hi John, and a very warm welcome to Brit Gen...

I have a connection with a WOOD family from Chorlton upon Medlock, but it is only a slim connection. My paternal grandmother's younger sister married Albert Edward WOOD in 1920. He was always known as 'Hal'. I have the original marriage and death certificates for Albert, which were passed to me by his younger son (another John WOOD). I have traced his birth registration and have also found him in the 1891 census.

    This is the info:

    Birth: WOOD, Albert Edward/ 1884 Dec Q/ Oldham/ Vol D p717

Marriage (from original certificate): Albert Edward WOOD, aged 35, married Ida Geraldine PRESS, aged 33, at St Bridget's, West Kirby, on 24 January 1920. Albert's father was Walter Henry WOOD, deceased, mechanic.

Death (from original certificate): Albert Edward WOOD, died aged 48 on 6 April 1933; he was an electrical engineer, cause of death was (basically) stomach-related problems.

    Of more interest to you:

    1891 Census RG12 Piece 3183 Folio 92 p20
    WOOD, Walter Henry/ 49/ head /mechanic
    WOOD, Nancy A/ 45/ midwife
    WOOD, Annie E / dau/ 23
    WOOD, Clara / dau/ 17
    WOOD, Emily/ dau/ 15
    WOOD, Charles H / son/ 13
    WOOD, Alfred E / son/10
WOOD, Albert E / son/ 6 [This is Hal WOOD, see above.]
    WOOD, William / son/ 3

The family were living in Kay Street, Manchester, in the parish of Chorlton upon Medlock.

If any of those names occur in the WOOD line of your research, then this might be the family. Bear in mind, though, that WOOD is quite a common name.

    Swooping off.
