The Bucks Herald, 19 Oct 1889, in reporting the Chief Constable's annual report mentioned the proposal to offer a gratuity of 1 year's salary to the widow of
"... Merit Class Police Constable (20) James Kennington, aged 28 years, died on 1st July last, in the service of the force. His death occurred from natural causes. He served in the force for a period of seven years and 111days ..."

Thanks Christanel. What makes this one a bit complicated is that it is between census and the children's name and place of birth are different. Thanks for your help.

This census has the names of the children you gave in your first post with the correct first name of the mother and she married a Kennington.

    1891 census RG12 piece 1155 folio 82 page 17
    Steeple Claydon Buckinghamshire
Samuel Edwards 24 blacksmith Colfton? Devon
    Eliza Edwards 29 Aldsworth Gloucestershire
Frederick Kennington 9 son Sunninghill, Berkshire
Charlie Kennington 4 son Laringdon, Buckinghamshire
Sidney Kennington 2 son Whaddon, Buckinghamshire
Sylvia Kennington 1 dau Crowthoine, Berkshire,
The first two children of James and Eliza were born in Sunninghill (Sunnyhill in your post #1?)
Then James joined the police force in Bucks where the next 2 children were born.
The last child Sylvia's birth was registered in Easthampstead reg dist (which includes Binfield and Crowthorne Berkshire) in 1890 after the death of James in Winslow reg district Bucks Sept 1/4 1889

Crowthorne, Binfield and Wokingham are all within a 10 mile range of Sunninghill.

So do you think there was also a Charles married to an Eliza with the same children's names? Or is it that someone has skipped a generation and James the son of Charles and Eliza also married an Eliza and he is the father of the children? My post #10

The only other Sylvia Kennington birth registrations on FreeBMD were in 1925, 1935, 1948.

    Charles Kennington
    Baptised 28 Oct 1821
    Binfield, Berkshire, England
    Father - William Kennington
    Mother - Elizabeth Kennington
    FHL Film Number 1040395
    Reference ID 37

So I think it probable that someone had skipped a generation when researching the children's parentage because both Charles and James had wives named Eliza
