Default George Henry Looper to Cape Town

hi all please could anyone help as am not sure where to start looking.
i am tracing my family tree.
my grandmother told me a story when i was young, that her father (my great grandfather)went on a boat she waved him goodbye never to see him again.,hope i have the right family.
On the UK census in 1901 he is listed as Henry Looper b 1857-1860 Cape Town(he was a General Labourer.) but on his marriage records he is down as George Henry Looper m 1895 to a Sarah Ann Barnett.
His Father is down as George Henry Looper on marriage record.

If anyone could look up this person for me in the cape town records or any information about him who was his parents ? etc or where i can look,i would be very grateful
    thank you.sue

Hello Sue and welcome to Brit-Gen

I have given your post a thread of its own in the Emigration forum. This way it won't get lost in someone else's thread.
Hopefully it won't be too long before someone is along to help.

You could try leafing through the baptisms for Cape Town St.George's (not indexed, but original images) to be found here

For 1860 onwards click Return to Collection and choose next file

Thank you Geneius yes I am a bit confused as my gram said she waved him off and never saw him again and it looks as if her mother remarried to a man last name of Bowtell will have to do some more research on this.

Could the coffin have been seen as a 'boat' by a youngster?

If you look at the 1911 census you will see

2 Barnett daughters, Florence & Margaret Alice

4 x LOOPER children the latest born 1904 which ties in with the death of GHL

    Benjamin BOWTEL aged 50 unemployed

I have a note that they married 1914
