Default Maiden Name * Excited Yell *

I decided to go outwards from the places I knew that my ancestors had come from in Worcestershire, and, on the BMSGH site, buy whatever registers and transcripts I had, especially those that haven't been completely covered by the IGI. In particular, I am missing marriages, some no doubt to the Commonwealth Gap, but not all. One of ones that was niggling at me was the maiden name of Isabel, wife of my distant half-uncle Thomas Allen, of Droitwich. It's been a mystery for years.

Today I bought the transcripts from Great Witley; and there it is. Thomas Allen of Witch married Isabell Pollard of Great Witley, 12 Feb 1615/1616. I had no idea there was any connection to Great Witley. This is so great!

What a great result and another piece of the jigsaw filled in. Now to the next missing piece!

    A well-deserved result t@nya.

I'm a great believer in buying indexes etc, from the local FHS. It's surprising just how much information you can get for a tenner on a CD from Lincolnshire FHS. And some societies such as Norfolk FHS have a lot of transcripts which you can access online. Works out much cheaper than the rail fare to county archives, and as you've obviously found definitely much cheaper than the air fare from Australia.

And, yes, now it is on to the next mystery.
