Your last known 'church record' date is 24 November 1835, when Stephen James was baptised. The next date is 6 June 1841, census date, If the parents died which seems to be the correct assumption, finding some of the children with relatives,

    Your timescale:

    A) November 1835 8 30 June 1837 Parish Records only.

    b) 1st July 1837 on both the Parish Records & certification

Presumably this is the marriage to which you refer

To add to what Jean has already found for you, good work Jean, the banns of the marriage of Stephen & Elizabeth also appear on Ancestry and they were called on the 9th, 16th & 23rd December 1810 and show that Stephen HAINSWORTH was of Bradford Street, Deritend, aged 21, & Elizabeth GUY, the same, aged 22 years, which gives you a bit more information. The witnesses at the actual marriage on 24th December 1810 were John GUY & Mary STANDLY who both marked as did the bride and groom, so John GUY was presumably a relative of Elizabeth.

There is a burial, which may be relevant to you, at Birmingham St Martin on 20 September 1835 of a Stephen AYNSWORTH of Sleany? Street, aged 43.

Bingo! This is definitely the burial of your Stephen as the entry of Emma's baptism in the parish register of St Thomas, Birmingham, shows their address to be Slaney Street and that he was a Labourer at that time as does the baptismal record of Stephen James AINSWORTH on 20 Dec 1835 (born 24 November), who must have been born & baptised after his father's death, mustn't he - poor Elizabeth.

I hadn't looked at STephens age and thought he might have been with the Benbow's as an apprentice gunsmith!!

Yes there could be a relative connection. I can see a Ann GUY d/o Charles & Sarah bp 9 June 1786 St Martin B'ham just cannot pick up a marriage to BENBOW.

If I recall there is a Charles GUY b 1811 with the Ainsworth boys in 1851 I think his parents maybe Charles.....

Haven't got Ancestry at present however maybe someone can look at the PR's for Birmingham....

    Thanks Janet

Thomas BENBOW and wife? Ann are proving somewhat difficult to trace. I cannot find him in the 1851 census so perhaps he died. There is a burial record on 13 April 1849 at Birmingham St Philip of a Thomas BENBOW, Weaman Street, aged 63, who could be the Thomas BENBOW in the 1841 census at Moland Street as Wearman Street is not that far away from Moland Street. I cannot find a marriage for him In Birmingham or in Warwickshire but given that Ann BENBOW is shown as not born in the county in the 1841, there is a marriage at Sedgley, Staffs on 2 September 1810 between a Thomas BENBOE & Ann WILKES, but that does not give a connection between him and the AINSWORTH/GUY families, does it.

Three baptisms on the same day at Birmingham St Philip, i.e. 31 July 1797 for an Elizabeth, John & Charlotte, children of John & Ann GUY. Presumably they were not all baptised as infants, given that Elizabeth GUY was supposedly 22 in 1810! Unfortunately the parish register page is damaged, so any information as regards age of Elizabeth & John after their names is indecipherable.

Ah, I may just have found the connection between Thomas BENBOW & the GUY/AINSWORTH families - bit convoluted but here goes.

Marriage at Birmingham St Philip on 5 March 1788 between John GUY & Ann OVERTON
Burial 3 June 1788 at St Martin for Charles son of John & Ann GUY
Marriage at Birmingham St Martin on 17 November 1789 between John GUY of this parish, widower, & Ann BAYLIS of this parish, spinster
Marriage at Birmingham St Martin on 3 February 1798 between Thomas BENBOW & Mary BAYLIS

Haven't found the burials yet for John's first wife or Thomas's first wife but will keep looking.

this is interesting because we have a ann standley born 1815 who married a william tranter . their daughter sarah tranter married a abraham groutage and their daughter jane groutage married walter benjamin son of stephen 1836. think thats right !!!!

This Mary STANDLY could well be connected to your family in some way, couldn't she. It never ceases to amaze me how strands of families intermarried - my lines are riddled with intermarriages, even supposedly forbidden ones such as first cousins.
