We need the mother's maiden name. After 1912 indexes include mother's maiden name which helps eliminate non matching records.

William G Bateman born Jan qtr 1919 Aylesbury Volume 3A Page 1189

There are a number of possible deaths for William G Bateman. There is one for a George W born 1918 died 1968 in Thanet.

I can’t see a Robert Bateman, who’s mother was Hill. The only two options that my search shows up is Simon R in 1932 in Tonbridge and Victor R in 1950, which is too late.

When you say "our records show" what does that mean exactly? That you have the marriage certificate?

Have you looked at the GRO indexes? There is only one marriage in 1918 in Sunderland RD of an Ethel M HILL and that was to a George B HARROD.

It may be relevant that the births in Sunderland to a HARROD with the mother's maiden name of HILL include a Robert W HARROD and a George B HARROD.

Perhaps you really ought to tell us why you're asking the question and where your information came from.

The only record of marriage I've found is from FreeBMD

    Harrod George B Hill Sunderland 10a 959
    Hill Ethel M Harrod Sunderland 10a 959

I can't find any Bateman/Hill marriages in Yorkshire nor Durham. A******* and FreeBMD do not return any results for Bateman /Hill progeny either.

    almach beat me to it

    There is a record of

    Marriages Jun 1942
    Bateman Alfred W Harrod E.Ham 4a 328

    Marriages Jun 1942
    Bateman Alfred W Harrod E.Ham 4a 328
    Clingan Dorothy M Spiby E.Ham 4a 328
    Harrod Ethel M Bateman E.Ham 4a 328
    Spiby Raymond C Clingan E. Ham 4a 328

I can only echo Peter #7 above and add was George really George or was it a 'family' name he preferred.
