I am looking for information on John Butt in the 1851 census at Southampton
John would be about 56 Augusta 41/42 they had George,Harriett, Matilda and Arthur. John was born at Houghton. Thanking you.

Thank you again. this Maria Green came to Australia in 1856 as Maria Butt.
now I would like to try and find out who her parents were. What would be the best way of doing this?

Australian death certificate would have their names.

I have some Australian indexes on CD do you know where she went and who she married (if she did of course)

I have never been able to find her under either name. The Family went to Taree NSW and then some of the family moved to the north coast around Lismore.

Have you tried looking for a Green/Butt marriage?

Perhaps Maria was related?

I now know that this Maria Green married Henry Butt oldest son of John and Augusta in 1875. She married under the name Maria Butt Gadding, I know that it is her as their witnesses were his brother Arthur and Jane Butt and took place at another brother George Launcelot Butt house and she states that she was born at Margate Kent. When her daughter Matilda Augusta was born her maiden name is shown as Goding and she was the informant. Maria died in 1933 and no parents are listed. I still don't know if they were cousins or not.

Family Search has a baptism for Maria Butt at All Saint's Church Southampton on 10 June 1857 and her parents are John and Augusta Butt this must have happen just before they left the UK for Australia. So I would like to know if anybody has access to the parish reg to see if there is any additional info on Maria.
