    Default Aliens Certificate of Arrival

    I have a couple of entries in the aliens certificates of arrivals for my ancestor Balthasar Dietz from Germany in 1848
    I cant find out anything about these certificates. Why were they tear out forms given to the aliens? were they supposed to be carried?
    Did they have to report anywhere else with them?

    Thanks for the suggestion Megan but there is nothing on TNA which tells me what exactly the certificates were for. Another bit of red tape which served no purpose even back then?
