I can on!y pass on what has been given to me. Because I have yet to link it to my tree, I have not checked it personally, but I believe it has been conscientiously researched, although that is no guarantee that it is error free.

    Jenny,

FMP also have some parish register records for Ashburton, so I can confirm the information from the post 10 re Samuel HAYMAN baptised in 1700. There are also the couple of siblings as mentioned in post 10. Cannot find a burial for Samuel HAYMAN at Ashburton so did he move to Buckfastleigh as there are certainly quite a few burials for a Samuel HAYMAN there. Also remember as pointed out in post 8, John was baptised 16 March 1702/03 as again it was well before the calendar changed. Samuel snr's baptism in 1669/1670 at Ashburton is also on the parish register images via FMP and does give the name of his father. Can't give you full details because of terms and conditions but you could take out a pay per view sub - I think FMP still do them - or see if you can access FMP via your local Library or Family History Centre for free.

I can also confirm the date and details of Mary's marriage to John TOMS and that of John's to Ann WAKUM.

If my source is to be relied upon, the parents of Samuel(1669) were William and Margery (Hannaford) Hayman, married Ashburton 28 Dec 1654. William was baptised Ashburton 13 Dec 1629, son of Thomas.

Children of William and Margery:- Peternal, 19 Aug 1666, William, 23March 1667, Samuel, Thomas, 2Jan 1671, All Ashburton. Unexplained gap between marriage and first child.

That's as far back as I go.

Hi Janet , I have paid for a years "pay as you go" on Findmypast I found a Richard Hayman baptised Feb 1725 in South Brent, mother named as Wilmot. But cannot find a marriage to a Hayman for her or a John & a Wilmot Hayman any any census records. Am I on the right track?? I found a Wilmot Symme born 1671 , parents Richard & Wilmot Symme...possibly her?

I don't know, Jenny. I think you would have to track this Richard HAYMAN through the parish records of South Brent to see if he is married perhaps, had children baptised or buried in South Brent. It is difficult to be certain that he was not born in Buckfastleigh because the parish register pages are missing from FMP for around that time. His marriage record is not very helpful is it, as there are no details whatsoever except for the names of both parties.

    Hi brentor boy,
I received an email last week from a Hayman friend now living in Australia who left Buckfastleigh in 1960`s with attached hand written family tree that has been passed down & was given to him a few years ago. He has William Hayman (bap 13 Dec 1625) and Margery Hannaford in his tree with Samuel (b 1669) with their marriage as 28 Dec 1654.
Children of William & Margery Hayman are Joane ( b 22 Sept 1655) Margery ( b Sept 1658) Agnes ( bap 27 Sept 1668 bw 25 Jan 1671-2 ) Peternal (bap 19 Aug 1666 bw 28nn) William (bap 23 Nov 1667-8) Samuel (bap 17 Feb 1669) Thomas (bap 2 July 1671) Joan (bap 4 Nov 1672) Philip (bap 22 Aug 1674) Thomasin (b10 Sept 1682) has Thomasin marriage to Thomas Champernown on 6 Feb 1704-5. Agnus (bw 25 Nov 1687) Daniel (bap 9 Feb 1689-90 bw 6 May 1696, s of Thomasin) I gather “s” is son of Thomasin and he was born before she married.
Can someone tell me what “bap 19 Aug 1666 bw 28nn” means that is if I have read it correctly as writing is very small.
This would explain the gap between marriage date & your first child Peternal .

William Hayman`s (b 1625) parents are Thomas & Johanna (nee Windeat bap 26 July 1608 )Hayman marriage 16 Jan 1626-7 They have Johanna`s father as John but I have found a Christening record via MyHeritage with her father as Johannis Windeat on 26 July 1608 in Ashburton, Devon.
    Johanna Windeat
    Gender: Female
    Christening: July 26 1608
    Ashburton, Devon, England
    Father: Johannis Windeat
