    Default Kelly, Sitapur 1878

Is there anyway of getting a copy of a birth certificate or registration for a record I found on Fsearch?
Hector Rupert Kelly b 14 Dec 1878 to James and Mary Ann Kelly.
Specifically I need Mary Ann's maiden name and James's occupation to be able to continue my quest.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The record you have comes from the Colonial Office archives which are held by the British Library. This link will tell you what else they have:

The other place to look is the FAQs part of the GRO web site:

    Thank you Megan.
I do not have much luck on the British Library site. Even the records I do have off FS, do not appear in the BL records.

British Library India Office records are gradually being added to Findmypast. The 1878 baptism is there on FMP showing the father's occupation but not, of course, the mother's maiden name.

Thanks so much Peter, one small step closer. That dispels the myth that he was a Military man.

Gortonboy, thank you so much, this is fantastic news (well not the last post - what a way to go, but what a story!)

There is another child I had my eye on, Gertrude Harriett. I took a chance and checked her baptism record to see if her father James was an Apothecary. He was, so that's another sibling. It also gave the very interesting information that James was in the Army:
H.M. 1/3 Regt. So he was a military man after all albeit on the medical side.
