    On familysearch.org

    John Martin
    Christened 11 Jan 1828
    At Brampton Cumberland
    Mother = Jane Martin

    So illegitimate by the looks of things.

    Where did you get this information from ?

    Where was John Martin born as we should be able to find him on the 1851 census possibly as a gardener and maybe with a bit of luck still on her fathers estate if they where gentry (lol)

    On My brother in law's tree on a certain site it shows John Martin born at Keswick Cambridge England in 1828. On my brother's tree on a certain site it shows Elisha born in Cornwall England in 1800. And on my brother's tree is shows Jane born Nixon born in Brampton Cumberland England in 1823. And on my brother's tree it shows Jane's father was John Nixon but no further info on John Nixon.

    Sure leaves one scratching their heads for sure.

    Again thanks for everyone's input.

    I had to laugh when I was trying to find further info on a Phillander Crosier (mother's side) and I have no idea how much floosey stuff came up on that query. LOL

    I was reading more on another article on Joseph Martin 1866-1970 and it states on his father's side not his mother's side from many generations back, he mentions being related to a Christopher Moses. I wished the article said exactly how and how many generations ago he meant.

    It the article it states several generations back from Joseph Martin. 1798 would only be a couple of generations back from Joseph. This is getting so confusing.

    Here is the article on Joe I got that info from.

    "Joe Martin Will be 91 Next Monday" Scan the top of the page closer to the right side of the page one can see the article. About half way down the article on can see Christopher mentioned.

    On this article is where I got the info about his parents.

    In the first column under the pic with the headline "Georgetown's Joe Martin Older Then Canada Itself"

    Default Brampton

    Whilst there doesn't seem much doubt that you're talking about Brampton Cumberland, it needs to be pointed out that the other Brampton was in the county of Huntingdonshire, not Cambridgeshire. It wasn't until 1974 when Huntingdonshire was gobbled up by Cambridgeshire that Brampton was officially in Cambridgeshire. So even if the lady in question had been born in the southern Brampton her baptism wouldn't appear in Cambs Baptism Index which covers the original pre 1974 county.
