Sam PUGH died in the workhouse.
He can be found 1881 census at RG11 1026 18 30 b 1865 Wakefield
I can find a 'writer' Frank FOSTER who writes in the London papers about the Circus acts

Hi geneius
Looking at the original image the first bloke is Thomas F Hale. He isn't a gymnast but I can't read what it says.
Then it is
Thomas Etherdo snr (no .. for doh under Hale) 36
Thomas Etherdo jnr 13
Eugenia Etherdo 11
then the others as the transcription says.

ancestry has 2 service records. One for the RGA regiment no 124955 and the second one reg number 124938.
I only took a quick look but on the second one it seems Tom is more specific about the surname registrations of his children.
I am still searching for them all prior to 1891 census.

Thank you Christanel for taking the time to look into my query. You have given me a lot of useful information. Wow how do you find out all this stuff? I was given "half" a book about the George sanger circus---do not know what happened to the other half. It was written by Frank Foster who you mentioned. I still can't find a wedding for Tom and Edith although you say it refers to his wife Edith Rouse married parish church Yarmouth. I have found Olga and she married in 1939 a Ronald Bowman but she died in Bromley 1940
Northampton seems to be the main area as the other 4 children were born there. On my father Richard birth certificateb 1912 it says mothers name Souter and fathers name Hicks which was crossed out with 2 lines going through it! Can you help me with the emigration to America with tom's mum and 2 sisters, must have been around the time the father died in 1883 and was she a Hicks or a Pugh. Thanks again regards jenny
