My grandfather was in the Middle East in WW2 and was involved with the movement of tanks across the desert (Palestine/Egypt), for which he recieved a letter of commendation for designing a tank transporter (so I believe), he died just after the war so I never got to hear from him his story. He was apparently offered a position with Glub Pasha's Arab legion as a senior officer, which he turned down as he was getting homesick for England. His initials were W J Cowell (William James), brilliant if anyone can shed light on this?

Hi
Apply for his service records - https://www.veterans-uk.info/service_...e_records.html
Also search for him in the London Gazette - it is not the easiest to search now they have upgraded? it, but any promotion or award should be listed in there, is this him - https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...upplement/2794
His service number would confirm it.
regards
Robert
