Hi
What does the term "Seniority Date" mean please (British Army WWII)?
Does it mean the date my Father joined the War or the date he was promoted to another position during the War?
Thank you,
Rosalind

Seniority defines a person's standing in relation to others of the same rank. The seniority date is the date on which someone is deemed to have been promoted even though the actual date of taking up post in the new rank may be somewhat later for various practical reasons.

Hi and thank you so much for your really quick response!
Your reply was very helpful, but also prompts the question could this also this mean my Father was in a more junior position originally and was then promoted to the position of 2nd Lieutenant during the War?
He was not a member of the military prior to the War and was in his teens (as many were I imagine) when WWII started. At the time of his 'Seniority date' in early 1944 at Anzio he was about 17yrs old which seems terribly young.
Thank you

I should have said promotion or initial appointment.
