Question Swain House School, Bradford, Yorks.

    Hi everybody,
I am trying to trace any archives for Swain House School going back to the 1940's. I have tried the new school but they only go back about 10 years, and I have had no luck with the Bradford Libraries Archives who never replied to my enquiry.
When I was at the school in 1945-6 we had a teacher who had come over from America to help out with the teacher shortage whose name was Miss Smurthwaite (sorry no first name). I have just discovered that I have Smurthwaites in my family tree and wondered if there was any ancestral connection.
If anyone can shed any light on this matter, I would be most grateful.

    Regards,
    Keithtug

I think you need West Yorkshire Archives Service. Entering Swain House School as a search term in their catalogue throws up plenty of hits. However I would ask their advice about staff records - the school itself would not have been the direct employer.
