Records from an Orphanage in Leeds

Hello,
I just recently found out about a long-lost relative that was put into an orphanage in Leeds around 1950. I live in the USA and have limited access to records from the UK. Does anyone happen to know of an orphanage or orphanages in Leeds and where I might find records about children that were dropped off there around that timeframe? I appreciate any help.

Unless you can prove that your relative is dead, I doubt if you'll get very far with record repositories. The 1950s are a bit too recent!

As I've just recently found out, she is very much alive, but I am cautious of her story that she is related until I can find proof based on what sketchy info that I do have. I"ll keep you posted.

If you know her birth name, your first step is sending for the birth certificate.
