1943 electoral roll show Herbert John Lawrence a printer and Margaret Jean Lawrence at Thomas Street Fairfield.
So it is looking as though Herbert John born 1887 to Herbert/Samuel remarried in 1940 and his son died before him.

Does that sound right? My head is beginning to spin with all the Herbert Johns!

The 36 and 37 rolls have red herrings I think. When HJ Jnr married Margaret Pitt in 1940 his occupation is printer. Therefore I think it in 36 it is he and his mother, Mary who are together. Does it have a street address?
Also when HJ Jnr married, his deceased father is shown as a baker.

The address for H J jnr and Mary (mother and son) in 1936 and '37 is Harris street Myee? Fairfield.

Think I have got it straight in my head now. Just when I want to try and sort it the phone rings. Just don't send the hail down to Belmont!

A warrant has been issued by the Paddington Bench for the arrest of Herbert John Lawrence charged with wife desertion. He is age 31, 6 feet tall, medium build, very fair complexion and hair, clean shaved, dressed in a grey sac suit, and grey soft felt hat. A baker and pastry cook lately employed by Messrs. Smith and O'Brien Bakers, Muswellbrook. Complainant Mary Lawrence 34 William Street Sydney.

Wow thanks for that. So he is a bad apple in the barrel. I wonder what happened to him after that. May be he changed his name to escape the law. I might add, Herbert J Jnr divorced - what's that saying, like father like son. Very interesting.
