How certain are you that he was born in Liverpool?

There's a newspaper article titled 'Biographical Sketches of Lancashire Mathematicians' in the Preston Chronicle Saturday 17 September 1853

It's a very long piece and is mostly about his mathematical skills, but the first paragraph headed 'Memoir of the Late J. H. Swale of Liverpool' has this personal information.

J H Swale the late distinguished geometer was born at Bishopthorpe near York, 16th Oct 1775. Educated at some of the many respectable Acamedies then established in Yorkshire. [it then goes on to say where he held posts in Yorkshire]

He married 8th Mar 1805 a miss Sanderson dau of one of his former employers. His two eldest children were ES Swale (1807) and JH Swale jnr (1809) were born whilst he was resident at Idle, Bradford Yorkshire, Mary Swale his third child was born Liverpool 1810, he continued to rside in Liverpool until his death in 1837.

The originals of these marriage records can be seen on Ancestry. Jane's middle name was clearly BREARY, without any L, as she signed it thus apart from what the vicar wrote.
Yes, definitely BREARY on the marriage record. So could this refer to the wrong Jane???? Does appear a big coincidence if so!

I've been off rummaging 99.9% this is Jane's father....as far as I can see there are no copyright implications

I googled John Henry SWALE Liverpool. The book is a PDF readable on line!!

Extracted from The Historic Society of Lancashire & Cheshire volume V11 for sesion 185-1855

Mr Swale was born at Bishopsthorpe near York on October 16th
1775, his parents occupied a respectable position in life, and sent their son to receive the rudiments of his education in several of the many respectable academies in Yorkshire, After a successful course, during which his superior talents not unfrequently manifested themselves, he was engaged as Assistant Master in Mr Sanderson’s Classical Mathematical and Commercial Academy at Becca Lodge near Aberford. He subsequently held similar situations at Leeds & Chester, but in the early part of 1805, he was successful in obtaining a mastership of the Town School at Idle, near Bradford which, in addition to a permanent income, supplied a suitable residence for the accommodation of the master. This led to his marriage to a Miss Sanderson, the daughter of one of his former employers, on the 8th March in the same year, and in 1810 he removed to Liverpool where he continued to reside until his death.

Wonderful work by geneius and almach

So, it appears the only one who actually came from Wales is John Brown(e). Unfortunately John Brown(e) is an extremely common name, though marginally less so in Wales. The pay per view site Findmypast does have some original parish registers from Denbighshire but the only baptism I can see in Wrexham was in 1805, a tad early if his age was right on the US census returns.

Of course he could have been born elsewhere in Wales. Did you get Wrexham from a marriage in the family bible? If so, was a date given? If the Bible just says Jane's parents were married in "Wrexboro" then this may have been written much later by a descendant, as Wrexboro is a very American spelling

What a great pity we haven't found a marriage between Jane Breary Swale and John Brown/Browne. But never say never. If the Jane being researched here did marry John Wild before John Brown I wonder if her 2nd marriage was in the U.S. and not all children on the census are hers? John Brown may also have been married before.
