Hi again Mike. I have changed the title of your thread to something a little more meaningful, as we have some busy members who only open threads that they think they might know something about.

Samuel Albert Matthews married Hannah Cox 1909 Qtr Oct in Dudley, Staffordshire Vol6c Page 6.

In the 1911 census they were living at 95 Broad Lanes Coseley Bilston:
    Samuel aged 27 (1884) a Tramway Motor Man born in Sedgley, Staffs;
Hannah aged 25 (1886) born Coseley, Stafforshire
Thomas Albert 7 months (1810) born Coseley
    Ref: RG14PN17419 RG78PN1066 RD372 SD3 ED27 SN47

A search on Matthews births 1912-1930, with the mother’s maiden name Cox reveals quite a lot of possibles. Bernard Matthews birth in 1919 was registered in Walsall. There are 2 others in Walsall:
    Samuel L in 1913
    Raymond in 1926
There are 8 such births registered in Dudley. The only way to know would be to get birth certificates, but that would get very expensive.

In the 1901 Census Samuel is living with his parents John and Matilda and 7 siblings at 1, Wood Street, Sedgley.

Matthews, Harry Son 15 1886 Pupil Teacher Sedgley, Staffordshire
Matthews, James Alfred Son 9 1892 Sedgley, Staffordshire

In 1891 the family were living at 37, Wood Street, Sedgley, Ettingshall
Name Relation Condition Age Birth Year Occupation Where born
Matthews, John Head Married 47 1844 Assurance Agent Cookley, Worcestershire
Matthews, Matilda Wife Married 42 1849 Shop Keeper General Birmingham, Warwickshire
Matthews, Alice M Daughter Single 19 1872 Tin Plate Polisher Bilston, Staffordshire
Matthews, John P J Son Single 16 1875 Tin Plate Dipper Bilston, Staffordshire
Matthews, Mary B Daughter Single 15 1876 Helps In Shop Bilston, Staffordshire
Matthews, Fanny E Daughter Single 12 1879 Scholar Sedgley, Staffordshire

Matthews, Annie Daughter Single 8 1883 Scholar Sedgley, Staffordshire
Matthews, Samuel A Son Single 7 1884 Scholar Sedgley, Staffordshire
Matthews, Harry Son Single 5 1886 Scholar Sedgley, Staffordshire

In 1881 the family were living in Wood St, Sedgley:
Name Relation Condition Age Birth Year Occupation Where born
Mathews, John Head Married 37 1844 Hollow Fireman (I) Cookley, Worcestershire
Mathews, Matilda Wife Married 32 1849 Birmingham, Warwickshire
Mathews, Alice Maude Daughter Single 9 1872 Bilston, Staffordshire
Mathews, John P J Son Single 6 1875 Bilston, Staffordshire
Mathews, Mary B Daughter Single 5 1876 Bilston, Staffordshire
Mathews, Fanney E Daughter Single 3 1878 Bilston, Staffordshire
Mathews, Arthur W Son Single 1 1880 Bilston, Staffordshire

    Two possible marraiges:
1871, Wolverhampton John Matthews married either Sarah Banbery or Matilda Simpson
1871, Shipston on Stour John Matthews married either Patience Hale of Annie Matilda Wyley
The former one is more likely, but to confirm it you would need to gat Samuel’s birth certificate as that would have his mother’s maiden name on it.

I had a look for Hannah Cox in the 1901 census, but there are 3 of about the right age in Dudley. The way to narrow them down would be to get their marriage certificate as that will give her father’s name and occupation.
