Got the marriage certificate (the 1907 wedding mentioned in the thread) for Sarah Lewis today, and it shows that she was indeed my mother's aunt: the right age, the right father, and one of the witnesses was her brother-in-law, already on my tree – and she gave his address (12 Brynbedw Road, Tylorstown) as her own, so she must have been part of a family party! Her only surviving brother, my grandfather Mathias, did not marry until 1909, so he may have been there too, as he was in 1901.

So thanks to the help I've had here, I know the answer to both parts of my original question.
