    Thank you everyone so far. I have contacted the Northumberland Records Office, no reply so far. The Information Officer at Newcastrle Library and her colleagues are also trying to solve the problem. Haswell does appear to be a strong possibility but doesn't fit within his and the family's normal area. More info. when I get it!

    Both the Newcastle Library team and the Senior Archives Assistant (working from a different copy) feel the place name is most likely Haswell, so I think we'll go with that. Thanks everyone for your interest.

    May I suggest, although the groom was married in Byker, he may not have lived in that parish. Haswell is a mining village in County Durham that still exists, although that industry has long gone. Distance from Byker is approximately 15 miles. If you google ‘Haswell’ maps available.
