I am looking for any information on a Mary Ann Carver, born 20 June 1830 in Glasgow, died 11 June 1885 in Clayton, Iowa. She was married to John Hauschen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a tree on Familysearch? I notice on 'Findagrave' there was a query on her name being 'Carver' or 'Carnear'. Does anyone have her marriage certificate? Were they married in US or elsewhere.

There is a pedifree resource file for this family on Familysearch: Ancestral File Number: 3MG8-F7M
John HAUSCHEN born c.7 Jul 1827Kranichfeld, Saxony (d. 06 Sep 1899 Guttenberg Iowa)
Mary Ann CARVER born 20 Jun 1830 Glasgow (d.11 Jun 1885 Clayton, Iowa)
Children born 1856 onwards - the first is John HAUSCHEN b.12 Aug 1856 Galena Illinois
However: states he emigrated 1854 (short time after marriage) to Batavia Illinois and came to Clayton Iowa in 1857. But does not say from where he emigrated or where married. Taken at face value, did they marry in Scotland?

The burials are at: https://
sharylscabin.com/Clayton/cemetery/clayton_ah.htm#h
Interestingly:
- both John and Mary Ann are alternatively spelt Haeuschen
- John is described as John Jr (pedigree resource file has his father as Frederick): which is correct?
- discrepancy in dod for John 06 Sep in Pedigree resource file / 06 Apr per transcribed Clayton burials
Earliest census I can find is 1880:
name: John Hauscher
event type: Census
event date: 1880
event place: Clayton, Clayton, Iowa, United States
gender: Male
age: 52
marital status: Married
occupation: Farmer
race (original):
ethnicity: American
relationship to head of household: Self
birthplace: Germany
birth date: 1828
spouse's name: Mary Hauscher
spouse's birthplace: Scotland

image number: 00258
wife Mary Hauscher F 50 Scotland
son John Hauscher M 24 Illinois, United States
son George Hauscher M 21 Iowa, United States

So: what evidence do you have for Mary Ann's BIRTH and MARRIAGE that can help us to help you? And what evidence is there that they emigrated after their marriage?

"Mary Carver Hauschen 1830-1885
Died: On June 11th 1885 at her home near Clayton, Mrs. Mary Ann Haeuschen, wife of John Haeuschen. The deceased was one of our oldest and most esteemed residents and a woman of many noble qualities as a wife and mother. She has been a sufferer from cancer since last November and bore her cross with Christian fortitude until death came to her relief. Mrs. Haeuschen was born in Glasglow, Scotland, June 20, 1830. She came to American in 1854; settled at Galena in 1855 where she was married to her surviving husband.
In 1857 they came to Clayton County and resided at Clayton until about ten years ago when they removed to a farm near town. Mrs. Hauschen was the mother of eight children, only three sons being now alive. She shared with her husband more than the average burden of care and trouble and sickness.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at the house. The Rev. Someriest of the Lutheran Church of Garnavillo preached the funeral sermon and it is spoken of in the highest terms. We join in the many expressions of deep sympathy for our bereaved friends"
Looks like the marriage was in 1855 and in Gelana (Ill.)

If you go to; https://www.
galenahistorymuseum.org/ancestors.html
Galena is in Jo Daviess Co.
They have marriage records from 1830, death records from 1877 (and other records): have you copies of these to confirm Mary's maiden name and place of birth? NB: per ilos.gov the marriage was:
John HAUSCHEN & Mary KARPER 28 Apr 1856 (in Jo Daviess Co.)
Alternatively, the marriage was:
nameJohn Hauschen
spouse's name Mary HARPER
event date28 Apr 1856
event placeJo Daviess, Illinois
indexing project (batch) numberM01971-0
system originIllinois-ODM
gs film number1602650
Looks like the marriage was just before birth of first child
Also there was an Illinois State Census in 1855 can you find any HARPERs / CARVERs / KARPERs or HA[E]USCHENs there?Last edited by Jan1954; 28-02-2013 at 12:14 PM. Reason: Website asks for donations

Can't find any Carvers or Karpers in 1841 or 51 on Freecen. Could it be Harper?
Or maybe McArthur?
Edit - sorry I didn't see Harper suggested on post #7. Seems more likely than Karper to me.

Panthur - you really need to eyeball the marriage record (either buy or get from your local LDS centre: see #7 above for refs.) to be sure of what Mary's name is and hope to get other useful information from it such as residencee, spinster / widow, witnesses etc. and depending on the quality of State records (i.e. in terms of detail) you should think of getting the death record too.
In the meantime, and just a theory....
I'd stick my neck out to say the marriage record name was HARPER (much more a Scottish name) and, depending how written, an H & a K can be easily mistaken.
So what about CARVER? It is NOT mentioned in her obit./death notice (the sentence above is not part of the newspaper coverage: it is likely there to 'link' the notice to her supposed death record). The burial record merely states Mary Ann HAUESCHEN. Findagrave heads the burial as Mary Ann CARNEAR / ?CARVER which suggests a difficult to read gravestone and could just as easily be HARPER
However, we do really need to know the detail of the marriage record
