I am trying to find records for the Canoe Lake Bowling Club. My grandparents both played there between about 1916 and 1935. My grandmother told me that they both won cups for this. In fact, my grandfather was playing bowls at the club in August 1928 when his son drowned of Whale Island.
I do not have any pictures of my grandfather and wonder if records are available, they might include photos.
I would be grateful for any help.

This doesn't answer your question but I wonder of you've seen this from 1928?

I'm not sure if this is the same club but it certainly goes back to 1914. There is an "Honours Board" that has some names on it from 1914/1921 onwards. In any case, as this club has been there for such a long time I think it would be worth contacting them.

Thank you Malcolm. I had not seen the image from 1928 although I had visited the club about 10 years ago.
I notice that the Star & Crescent Bowling club mention the Canoe Lake Bowling club so I will get in touch with them.
Thanks again

Jolly good. It's just struck me that the Local History section of the Portsmouth History Centre may have something. Their webpage is:
